Since corn is a heavy feeder I make a point to take a day to spoil it! :)
About the time the stalks start reaching to my waste the roots begin to show at the base and that's the signal that it's time! :)
I toss organic fertilizer along the base of the rows and use the hoe to hill up the soil around the base of the stalks! :)
Then I water it good, ... leaves, stalks, soil and all, making sure all fertilizer particles are on the soil, and all is refreshed! :)
It's always a good feeling when it's done knowing that, the corn has been cared for and, we've done our part to help this be a happy corn crop! :)
