Since we grew a squash test garden this year, we have a variety of squash we never tasted before, finding their way onto our plates! :)
One of these squash is called Sweet Meat. (blue-gray, in back)
Here's what the Territorial Seed Company catalog, says about it. It's a 115 days, heirloom treasure of the Northwest. Sweet Meat is still virtually unknown in the rest of the US. This 10-15 pound slate gray round squash is renowned for it's superb keeping quality and unsurpassed rich, sweet flavor. It makes the best pumpkin pie on Earth! :)
As you can see, just one of these squash fills our entire professional cookie sheet! :)
In fact, the sides hung a bit over the edges! :)
The baked color, texture, taste, and aroma was perfect! :)
Due to the size, two hungry grown men and myself could only eat half of it at one sitting! :)
Now I look forward to having an empty stomach so we can eat the rest! :) It has that wonderful sweet meaty flavor we adore in our squash! :)
It's aptly named, isn't it? :)
If you get an opportunity, be sure to give this squash a try, especially if you're like us and like squash that's best described as ... Sweet Meat! :)
